I apologize if this has been answered already, but I didn't see it if it was. Has Jeff divulged whether the storyline of the movie will follow the musical or of the book? Main difference would be the sequences with the brother and the Narrator's wife instead of Carrie. The one scene that I'd love to see in the movie would be the scene in the storm where the Narrator first sees the Fighting Machines. The drama and terror in that moment was missing from the first sight scene in the musical. Regardless of the storyline, it'll be a kick-ass movie, just wondering what story to expect Regards, Dan M.

The book. My understanding is -
Books storyline and characters + Trim's Tripods + Jeff's Music = The CGI movie.
Hope that helps bro.

All that has been stated officially so far is that it will be a CGI movie following the book story and using renditions of Jeff's music as a score rather than a 90 odd minute 'pop video' of the album. Nothing has been said about characters or anything else as yet. As the album does follow the storyline pretty closely anyway (with a few extra characters thrown in and names changed for dramatic purposes) I wouldn't totally write off seeing Beth and Carrie in it too. Whilst this film won't be aimed exclusively at the Album's fans, I'm sure there will be much agonising at the storylining stage as to whether to include characters that a lot of people would probably expect to be there. It's going to be very interesting following the details on this one as they emerge.

Yes I really hope that scene is in there too. That's got to be one of the best, most memorable scenes of the book. It would be sacrilage not to include that! Horsell said that Jeff wants to make it faithful to the book, so here's hoping.

Thanks for the insight guys (Got those splinters picked out yet Horsell? ) It would be nice to see the brother in this version somehow, but in all honesty, I think having the Narrator take the dog-cart and trying to get to London to Carrie would provide an opportunity for the storm scene as well. We'd miss the whole "going to Leatherhead" bit, but the more I think about Jeff's rewrites, the more I come to like his version better than the original in some respects.

C'mon HC, Oh great and mighty portal to all things JW.....
tell us MORE.....
Given Nerf posted its the BOOK story but renditions of JW music, this even leaves open the question:
WILL IT BE A MUSICAL? (IE with songs?) or not?

This is what the boys at the top have to say . . . . CGI-animated Feature Film [09/APR/05]
In the Autumn of 2004, Jeff commissioned a large team of UK and European animators to begin production of test sequences for a feature length CGI-animated film based on his Musical Work which is intended to be released in cinemas in 2008 - and the team are making unbelievable progress!
Two short sequences (one of the Martian Fighting Machine and another of the Martian Flying Machine) were released on www.waroftheworldsonline.com and were greeted with overwhelming praise and excitement.
The film will stay true to the HG Wells' novel, being set in Victorian England and will of course make good use of Jeff's music![/b]

From what we do know it seems that there are unlikely to be any songs in the movie as such. The tunes used would seem to be 'renditions' or 'arrangements' rather than exactly as they appear on the album (i.e. structured like a proper movie score). It might or might not be orchestral but it hasn't been announced, as yet, exactly what form the music will take. It will be recognisable as the music from the album though. Not only that, but as you all no doubt know, the machines will be the Michael Trim designed ones and it seems Richard Burton's narration will be used when necessary. At the moment there isn't anything else to say on it. We'll let you know as soon as we know anything.

I definitely think that's the right way to go for Jeff and I hope the overwhelming majority of the soundtrack is orchestral - like a proper movie score as you said.
I also support the use of Burtons narration in parts, though obviously some other great actor would most probably have to be used aswell.

If you listen to the extras discs in the Collector's Edition of Jeff's album, you'll know that Burton actually recorded a lot more dialogue than was eventually used in the album. Due to time constraints, a lot of it was cut out. Bear in mind that, as most of the action will be played out visually, little actual narration will be required. There's a lot of things we don't know about this, as yet, but there is plenty of Burton material to use.

I haven't listened to the collectors edition yet so that's certainly a possibility.

Hmmmnnn, maybe whilst Mr Wayne is in the studio laying down some tracks for the movie he'll have a side project - The War of the Worlds: Extended Composers 'Cut'! Well, Kevin Constner did it with Dances with Wolves so why not WOW!?

Actually, Horsell and I were discussing that the other day. An extended cut of the album containing the extra dialogue would be great... but then it would necessitate extra music to back it up and so on. A big job. A nice idea but I don't suppose it will happen anytime soon.
