I hate to do this folks but I thought you might like to see a quick piece of conception work from my up coming feature length production of The War of the Worlds. It will feature original Tripods, music score and more and will eventually be available to watch on the Net and then on DVD 2 months after it's premiere. I'll keep you posted as to developments and as soon as the website is up and running I'll let you know the address.

It is indeed another Luperis masterpiece. Specially commissioned. It's a spin on my old one, as you may have noticed. I couldn't decide on what background to use so she did several.. and I decided to have a go at animating it. Which I did.. badly. Lupe then very kindly tidied it up for me. I love it! Thanks, Luperis! You are a real live genius and I salute you!

Thank you all. It's nice to find somewhere where people like my artwork.
Real live genius? Thank you, Nerf - i've never been called one of those before. Nor have I ever been saluted. ;D I'm really glad you like your avitar. I'm really proud of it too, as it is the first animated avitar I've made for someone else.

Looking good Chris! Looking further to more news about your project.
By the way, the legs of the Machine remind me of the Pendragon tripod.

The pre vis is quite hard, trying to come up with original good looking stuff that doesn't clash with other designs, be it the tripods, martians and so on. I will be posting various designs for your views as time goes on as I really value the opinion of everyone on these boards and I believe will help us get the version of WOTW that we all would like to see.

Don't worry about the similarity of the legs to the Pendragon machine Chris. The stomping legs that we first saw in the Pendragon trailer actually was the most impressive scene of the entire movie! :-)

It's still early days but here is some test footage I've been working on for my Tripod. The design of the hood will probably change because my wife thinks it looks cute (which isn't the idea as you know) but see what you think: media.putfile.com/Tripod-Walk-Test-Footage

Brilliant! That is impressive. I have to admit that the hood is a bit cute looking (looks a bit like something my martians would drive. ), but the trees are obscuring the view of it a bit, though - so I may be mistaken.

Agreed that the trees get in the way of the Tripod. This was a deliberate way of giving some sort of mystique to the machines. However now I think about it that was a bad idea as I need to know what you think of the Tripod and without seeing it properly it must be awkward to tell. Duh! Anyway, here is a close up of the hood. It is designed to rotate and move around the main body and the raised section on the top of the hood is the heat ray housing. I've tried to keep the design within the laws of physics. Tentacles will be added eventually.

Perhaps I'm "seeing" more than is really there, but it looks like those legs *might* have something resembling artificial muscles. If so, then bravo! It's so *rare* to see an artist put that detail in, despite the fact tha Wells spent some time describing them in detail. Looks like the basket on the rear is there, too! Well done.

It is a lovely model. I too would like to complement you on the legs - they have a very 'organic' feel to them, whilst still looking mechanical. the way the hood is seperate to the body, allowing it to move independantly, is a nice touch too.
