Sadly the stock photos were all in B/W im trying to redo it with a sepia tone to the picture Note: the trees in the distance is Horsell Common itself.

I think it depends on what you want to portrait. Does it have to look like the picture was taken during the actual war?
If so, I would first try to go with a somewhat classical format ratio, like 1:1 or 2:3. You can then show a bit more of the buildings in the foreground. Also, I would give one tripod some motion-movement (the one in the back maybe) and add some grain to the picture. By the way, B&W or sepia would be the perfect choice then.
But for the moment, the picture looks nice. I like how you have added the heatray to the statue, and the flare coming out of it.

Nice, but i prefer the B+W a lot of the detail is lost in colour, you cant see the heat ray effect as well.
Besides it gives a more 'newspaper footage' effect in B+W

k, the heat ray is more visible, as are the details in the trees. not the best coloring job in the world, but i prefer it to black and white. anyway, nice original pic to begin with, i like playing with stuff and colorizing it

i took your original black and white image. then i created a layer directly above it, and filled it with a light yellowish color. i used the soft light overlay and reduced the opacity of the layer to about 75% and then merged the two layers. then i ran the original picture layer through a de-interlace filter, and gave it the whole thing a slight gausian blur, and adjusted the levels to improve the contrast. finally, i used the vertical grain filter on the original layer. then i created another empty layer above that one, and drew some squigly vertical lines with different widths to give it that runing film look, and ran it through various grain and brush filters to make the edges rough. then i set it to screen opacity at about 75%

Wow! Great stuff Rusti in the first instance, then everyones mods with it too. I like the b&w- the distant hazy trees look better, but the second colorization does this justice too. Both good jobs of colourizing. Great interpretations- art mirroring art? What with the interpretations of the book coming too....

... and another as a still that lived through the battle! (Barely) Seriously, very good job with the original comp, Rusti, and to everyone else who added their own interpretation as well. members.cox.net/marcmcn/woking-battle aged.jpg[/img]

i liked the pictures posted here mostly the last one as this gives the old box brownie type camera (very old camera!!) 8-)feel to it.

Well, one of them was adapted by someone else (ahem), but my hearty agreement on the quality of everyone's work!
