But dont get your hopes up.
Ive been talking to a friend of mine who is a fantastic CGI artist and animator. Weve been discussing his next fan project and we are looking at doing a possible WOTW based idea.
I'm currently doodling some story boards and producing martian designs for a tank / martian battle among the streets of modern Woking to the music of Holst: Mars Bringer of War.
i dont have samples of my friends work but hes as good as B5 was during its heyday. Nothing will be started until the spring at the earliest. This will give me time to sort my designs out.
Dont get your hopes up, it may not happen.
I must also stress this is a fan based project, donr off our backs for no monetary gain whatsoever. Assuming it goes ahead.

Great news Rusti. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Are you basing it upon an existing incarnation of WOTW, or coming up with your own martians?

Coming up with my own stuff but the basic Martian imagry will remain. If you look around the boards i got a few designs booting about. My new Martians will be like those.

Well considering B5 pre season 1-3 was done on several interlinked Amiga's my mates setup is many times that power.
He should be in the film industry but he does it as a hobby and int interested in making money out of it.

Anybody with really good with Maya/Blender/3dsmax could blow it out of the water. The CGI on B5 looked good cuz it was shiny things in space. Easy

Well - fair comment to a degree, but when you look at what they did with very limited technology, you have to hand it to the CG team for B5. The design was also really good.
I believe in later series that they used Lightwave or a similar program and using todays tools, I'm sure that the same artists do create stunning CG.
It is all relative to the technology at the time of release- both The Last Starfighter and Tron (though this was mostly hand-drawn with rotoscoping) were cutting edge when they came out. These days, graphics engines on console games do a far better job.
You don't need a Cray supercomputer to run the maths any more.....

If I can help I will, just ask
I'm also working on a fan film, but not a direct retelling of the book, but a side story set in the period about a soldier and a pack of refugees he is assigned to protect. The story focuses more on human treachory rather than focus on the invasion itself.

Did I perhaps hear the word "Amiga"? Are you perhaps refering to the computer system? I have one, but I can not remember the version, and it is in the attic. I hope that it isn't catching dust.
By the way, straying off topic for a second, is the Amiga game "Alien Breed" or any versions of it for downloading? I mean either demos if you can not get the full thing legaly or if you can get the full thing legaly, where may you say?
--- The fan film sounds great by the way.

Already I see complications and possible solutions, but it's going to take some early planning, so when you get ssome free time, it might be a good idea to at least sit down, over a coffee and discuss our ideas.
Best to get the impossible ideas out of the way at an early stage before we can get down to even discussing whats possible.
Then there are time tables. I wouldn't expect a film like this to be done in under a year, not if you wanted a really decent job of it. This is going to be a loong project, so it's going to have to be a labour of love, and thats where the real challenge lies.
Whew, am I getting ahead of myself here?

I would like to put my services forward as an actor in this forthcoming fan film. One of my dreams in life is to star in a movie and get tragically killed, hopefully mutilated. I would be glad if you would consider me for such a part. The only problem is, I would need a lot of notice before filming as for the last two months I have been living on the wonderful Island of Orkney (In the UK).
If you need any script help or anything to do with writing I would be happy to lend a hand, as I am an aspiring author. Nothing published yet, but one of my stories is on the verge of being sent off. You can read a sample of my works in this 'Fan Creations' thread, called 'Sample'.
Thank you.

There are issues with "The War" and the "The War of the Worlds" fan film that cause some limitations.
One is a crowd. I'm not talking a few people of 10 or 20, but hundreds of people running in all directions in a mass panic. I have considered digital options to make it easier.
One of the thankful aspects about the War of the worlds is that the 2nd half of the book is dedicated largely to three characters, the narrator, the Curator and the Artillary Man. England is more or less a wasteland during that period.
The War on the otherhand, concentrates mostly on an exodus out of London after the Martian occupation and back again to Dead London. The initial invasion of London occurs mostly in the first 20 or so minuites of the story. I saw no sense in rewriting events everyone knows about. It would be an idea to mesh the two films together in the same world. Each with the same tripods, Martians and on occasion maybe even character.
Actors are more than welcome, any assistance to a film of this magnitude is most helpful. But again, I am reminding everyone this is a labour of love and could take a few years to complete, if that.
I want a polished production personally. Something that H.G. Wells and his society can be proud of.

The WOTW fan project will be started march at earliest due to his comitmmnts.
