Thanks, it was 9 months worth of work, and most of that was just finding the parts for it. Someone offered to buy it from me for $350.00, but I'll never sell it. Jim

I consider these, and some store bought kits as kind of a therapy. I've been out of work due to an injury and needed something to do before I went nuts. People have asked me where I bought my scratch built ones, and are amazed when I say that I made them. And even more amazed when I tell them what my Time machine is made from.

Of course, most our Members are far too young to have ever have seen the BBC broadcast of 'The Time Machine'. I saw it on our nine inch B&W and although there were some pretty awful FX, the basic plot was faithfully adhered to. Was quite good in those early days. The Pal movie I rather liked...it tried hard to stick to the 'script'....the last one was a sort of an abortion, really. A bit like that awful thing with John Revolting in it...'Battlefield Earth'? With 1,000 year old Harriers? Shudders............When will Hollywood ever get to grips with Literature, or can't they read?

I guess I'm just a grouch but I don't care for either version. The George Pal version has a nice Victorian time machine, but the story was eviscerated of its more thoughtful and philosophical qualities, turning it into a kids' movie. Not to mention the sexual overtones of the Eloi were bowdlerized.
As for the new version... it's so far from Wells' story it hardly is worth talking about as a version of The Time Machine, is it? I thought the talking hologram was interesting and well done as a set piece, but frankly I found the film so bad I've forgotten most of it.
So, like WotW, I'm still waiting for a *good* film version! Wish I'd seen the BBC production mentioned above.

[glow=red,2,300]Nice pic jimjam41 where's it from? I always liked the iconic notion of the Sphinx in the Time Machine, make sure to show us yours when its done.
Regarding the Pal film, sure it is missing a great deal of the book but it was still more accurate than the Pal WotW. Certainly there is room for a new, more accurate version. Maybe someone could convince the BBC to do a new mini series? Does anyone have more info on the old BBC production? Sounds good! [/glow]

I saw the movie yesterday on TV. It was fun to watch but somewhat dissapointing. What I did like were the little things they put in the movie to make it more fun, like in the end you see the maid closing the door of Hartdegen's laboratory, behind her you can clearly see a picture of H.G.Wells hanging on the wall. And when Hartdegen asks Vox about Time Travel Vox immediately opens a file about H.G.Wells and his book The Time Machine.
The novel itself is really really good, another contribute to Wells his brilliance.

I like the movie as-is (only minor point is, that the ending - the fight against the morlocks - seems to easy, there's no efford to it) but indeed, it misses Wells' points.

Hi, I found the pic of the Sphinx while surfing for time machine stuff. I have both versions of the story on dvd, but my fave is still the classic version. Maybe because it's the one I grew up with.
