It's odd, but I still find the film strangely watchable... I think it was you, Lensman, who somewhere or other said it was 'painfully naive' (or words to that effect, I can't actually track down the post). Yes, I would agree in bucketloads! But the visuals, the stirring music (still one of my all-time favourite movie soundtracks), and even the naive seriousness still draw me to it! Even if my sympathies lie more with Theotocopoulos and his 'let the devil take the hindmost!' attitude to life, rather than Cabal's terrifying cold rationalism, quite the reverse of where Wells wanted the audience's sympathies to lie...
