It doesn't mean I have to like it.
To be frank I have the greatest respect for Jeff Wayne and his vision. In fact their is little damage he coudl do in my eyes that will change that opinion of Jeff. It was always my lifetime dream to meet him, to shake his hand and say thankyou becasue if not for him I would never have been able to read, much less pursue the career in writing that I have done. It's something that will never happen now, opportunities missed for more important things like keeping my family safe, etc.
Fot all that respect, for all sorrow of never being able to meet my hero, I personally didn't like it. But as I pointed out before as well, the Prologue isn't for someone like me, it works for someone less familiar with the story and thats fine by me.
I don't have to like it to agree with it being included. Whats right and what I persoanlly feel about it are perfectly two different things.

I didn't like it... it felt too tacked on and cheap.
Also the machine at the beginning was poorly designed, and the entire sequence was just a sore thumb on the musical itself... everything else was brilliant though.

I didn't like it at the actual show because I couldn't make out a word the Martians were saying thinking!

I didn't like it, because these martians he showed to us think like human and act like human (i will not even mention the english speaking...). I don't think we would ever understand the 'hows' and the 'whys' of the martians, given the case. They are not too scary also, and worst of all, he shows us a somewhat peaceful Martian race. They even say that they had to develope their weaponry as never before in their history, or something like that (anyone care to make a precise quote?). I'm not against an introduction of this type, but this one departs too much from my vision of the martians.

I'm not against an introduction of this type, but this one departs too much from my vision of the martians. That's exactly what I thought. I believe what Wells was trying to put across in his book was that, although desperate for survival, the Martians were really only highly physically and mentally evolved versions of humans, but that they had failed to develop to a higher plain of civilisation (i.e. still retaining primitive warlike tendencies). Jeff's prologue blows this theory out of the water. KR

I really could do without it too. I can understand why people like it, but I personally don't. I know that subs wouldn't work if they spoke in an alien language, but the English spoken words don't work for me either. I understand what Fallingstar meant by 'B Movie-ish'. We are all aware it isn't a film, but the English language on the prologue (translated telepathy or no) makes it come across as a stage version of a B Movie (that is until the prologue ends of course- love the rest). The only ideal way of having the prologue, for me, is to not have it. I quite like not knowing why the martians attacked Earth anyway. Of course we know from the book. But the book is written from the writer characters perception. If the character in the album new of the problems the martians had on Mars like in the book, then it should have been narrated by Richard Burton like everything else. Of course that didn't happen so it should have been left as it is. Just my opinion.

Ditto, i couldn't have said it better. This adds to my previously exposed opinion.
