Today I purchased a Heavy Metal compilation, yes trying very hard to recapture my long lost youth memories. When listening to IRON MAIDENS "Run To The Hills" I couldn't help but notice how the songs start with the electric guitar sounds very "Eve Of The War" - well the first few cords anyways.
Mind you, I must admit, I have never tried to air guitar to WOTW - always a first time for everything

AAAAGGH NOOOOoooo! You'll set Krys off again!! ;D BTW if you think that sounds like the beginning of EOTW then you should have a listen to the theme music to 'Hawk The Slayer' - it finishes just like the end of EOTW...

"Hawk The Slayer"! Now there's a film I haven't seen for years!!! Yeah, and you won't want to either ;D Nah, its good cheesy fun. Made good use of the old western cliche technique of riding past the same rock over and over again... Plus you've got hilariously over the top hamming from the late great Jack Palance, plus the guy from the whipped cream ad ;D What more could you want?

Well, i don't know about chords and that stuff yet. But my dad says he does not think so, but he knows no more than me and he might be thinking of the wrong peice. Hey! PIECE of Mind! I don't know but, the solo thing in the middle of "Fear of the Dark" that is COOL! One of the best solos ever i think. But what do you lot think to that to Wotw guitaring, sorry but i would like replys from people who know which part i'm on about... Thanks! ;D

Other than it exists, it's apparently rather good and there are copies floating around...alas no. Didn't Overlord Kell say she had a copy on a German metal compilation or something? Unfortunately she disappeared a while back. When I get back to my own PC I may check one or two P2P things and see if I can get it.

;D Yeah,I know! I noticed that same similarity, since I own a copy of that film.Do we know if JW had anything to do with the production of HTS?I actually found a copy of the film on sale at a Blockbuster Video that was having a clearance, and it's still in pretty good shape. As a matterr of fact'if you look up Hawk the Slayer on the Net,you can find a site about it that has some sound bytes and video clips, including snippets of the soundtrack.

I can't remember much about the music for hawk the slayer, apart from the fact that it was an analogue synth fans dream, a sort of electronic folk-rock sound. The film was made in 1980 I think, only 2 years after JW album, so it's not surprising that there are similarities in the synth sounds. Does anyone know who did do the music for HTS?
And the intro to 'run to the hills' does certainly sound like EOTW. I understand that the Steve Harris (The bass player and big cheese in Iron maiden) is a bit of a prog fan, so I should imagine that he has a copy of JW's album in a prominant part of his music collection.

I remember upon its release my mate said RTTH sounds like some of eve of the war echoing my own feelings.
Someone else did mention hawk the slayer being similar. He thought WotW had ripped the film off!!!

this may be a little of topic, but, i am a professional DJ, playing in various large nightclubs, i often play alot of hiphop, and always take a small delight in mixing the beginning to JW WOTW (No one would have belived etc etc) into the Beastie Boys "Intergalatic" which is a song about two giant robots fighting on earth. it amuses me so.

I remember seeing, on the first televised Glastonbury highlights, an excerpt of a set by Tricky - he used a bit of WOTW - the glissando whistling sound that accompanies the hammering in the pit and at the start of the Red Weed - it worked really well.
