What exactly did he explain? We know the reasons for taglines. They're Here in Poltergeist... well, because they were here. Watch the Skies from CE... because they came from the sky.. War of the Worlds, They're already here? You haven't told us WHY that is used. I now I didn't and neather did he.

No cage rattled here.
From Paramount -
With the on going debate over the poster tagline for Paramounts War Of The Worlds and with many disliking it in many ways, Paramount offer there explanation for it's use.
"We think 'They're Already Here' is perfectly evocative," says Paramounts vice chair Rob Friedman. He continues "It makes people go 'Wow, I know what this is about and I want to go see it.' It's the first step in building awareness."
Like the tagline to ther Spielberg films such as "We Are Not Alone" used for Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Spielberg's other Sci-Fi thriller, Poltergeist "They're Here".

Your post from Paramount The Paramount man says "It makes people go 'Wow, I know what this is about and I want to go see it.' It's the first step in building awareness." And I said........ It's more likely to make people say ''Wow! what the hell are they on about'' The comedy is wasted lol

I find concept of aliens emerging from the ground and colonising middle America (for a short time) somewhat reminiscent of the periodic cicadas.
At least the six-legged variety of invaders aren't armed with heat rays!

...looking forward to the movie...

You have to admit, the concept of giant alien killing machines that could burst out of the ground at any time and kill us all.... is kinda creepy. I know a lot of people have a problem with it, but for me the original book wasn't really about WHERE the aliens came from or HOW they got here, but what happens once they start attacking. Besides, even as a kid I thought the idea of a giant lid unscrewing off a cylinder and aliens popping was sorta, um... cheesy. Now excuse me while I run for cover...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and go for a terrorist theory.
Sleeper cells are common practice as a pelude to open war. Perhaps the aliens underground are the sleepers to be activateed for a future war that was inevitable from another world? Weaken us before the main force shows up? Maybe they're here to round up what they were breeding... us, for a trip back home, their home, or maybe the real customers are coming to pick up their groceries and the shop assistants need to get the shelves stacked?
It's scary to think that perhasp all we've been fro the last 500,000 years are farmed goods.

Perhaps they are not attacking at all and it is a big misunderstanding ;D

Another possibility is that the Tripods ARE the cylinders. They just unfold and viola!, instant fighting machine.
Either way, you would imagine an advanced alien culture would find an easier way to invade planets than crashing into the ground at thousands of miles per hour. Have they never heard of a parachute??
