I don't think there's any way to accurately track all the versions of WOTW that have been done on the radio, short films, cartoons, etc. Its mind boggling, and honestly many are mind-numbing. And I'm sure there are more to come.
As for Our Lady of the Fondling Machine, I think it's sort of an interpolation by the filmmakers meant to emphasize what the artilleryman speculated a 'less simple sort' would mix into humanity's new life in Martian captivity; eroticism. In this case mixed with a dose of terror. This mix of sexuality and terror would compliment the traditional romantic perception some have of vampires and confirm the Martians are essentially interplanetary vampires - coming from Mars instead of the Carpathian mountains.

Shouldn't that be 'Our Fondling of the Lady Machine'? I agree, though. Sex and death have constantly been linked and explored over time, possibly because they are amongst the most bestial of things we can relate to.. I think so anyway. Probably why so many horror movies have at least a small T&A quota (small quota that is, not necessarily the T&A). I'm sure they don't call an orgasm 'the little death' for nothing.
