Hello all. Can't Believe I've only just found this site. Have been a WOTW Believer since I was ten, when i first heard the musical version and the rest as they say is history I am big on the true H G Wells book version of the story and care little for the 1953 film Therefor Cruise and Spielberg... you have a lot of us to answer to if you screw this one up. I feel so many of us are drawn together by the sheer magic and believability (is that a word... it is now!) of Mr wells' story, that to try and change the storyline / setting etc would be pure arrogance to a Genius of Sci Fi. I look forward to conversing with you all in the near future

Hi BlackDust,
Yes, that quote is in my opinion simply brilliant. One line says exacly how Wells saw Victorian society! And the build up of the line is just fantastic!
Greetings, Johan

Hejsan allihopa! ( =Hello everyone!). My name is Joakim Hultman, I'm becoming 18 this november and intend to take my drivers license around christmas. I live in Sweden, in a nice wooden house in the middle of the forest with my family. I'm currently studying social science at the Fredrika Bremer upper secondary school in Stockholm. I'm very interested in history and science fiction, and I intend to become a history teacher (or something like that...). I first got in contact with WOTW when I as an 8 year old read the Mickey mouse version of WOTW. I was very fascinated about the story, but the book was lost in my fathers boat wich sank in a storm. Years went by, and for some reason the memory of the Mickey mouse WOTW version popped up in my head, wich made me search on the internet. I found some facts about WOTW, and decided to read it... ...now, I have read the original WOTW many times in both english and swedish. I play the PC game, and as I write I listen to Jeff Wayne's musical. Needless to say, I got hooked. Anything I've forgotten...?

Yes, there was a Mickey mouse version of WOTW in a Donald duck pocket book, many years ago. Mickey got the role as the journalist, and they also managed to squeeze in Goofy as Ogilvy (In this version though, Ogilvy doesn't die ) As far as I remember, most of it is there. Even the Thunderchild!

Jeez...Sounds like something from a very bad nightmare!. Don't let Tom Crusiecontrol and Steven Spielberger get their mitts on it unless we wanna end up with Mickey Mouse saving the world. Btw Colonel do you like ABBA?. Tack for en underbar vanlig dag!. B-B.

Hello everyone!
Yes, I too became hooked on WOTW due to the musical - as many people here were, and later read the book, got the game, made a website, etc, etc... My fascination with WotW was part of my fascination with space - which has led to an extreme interest in Astrophysics and space science - subjects I plan to take at university once I have passed my AS and A levels.
However, despite my research into WotW related things for my webstite I had hever heard of the existance WOTW mickey mouse book - interesting! It must be quite strange!

Funny that...ABBA Sweden's greatest gift to the world are pretty much looked down on by of all people...The Swedish. I guess yer can't see a good thing when it's on yer own doorstep. This is not a criticism of you Colonel...Each to his own. Still as Agnetha Faltskog once sang...Manga Ganger An. Brit-Brat. Btw...I nick all the Swedish quotes from Agnetha's excellent solo' lp's.

Don't worry B-B. I can't really say that I'm a good representation of the average Swede. Most people over here like ABBA, more or less. Hmm... come to think of it, there's this fish distributor called ABBA too...

Hi all I'm Neil,
Been posting on this site for a while but now for formal introductions. I'm 33 and live in the south of England. I'm an airline steward for a large UK airline so get to do a lot of travelling and work along side stunning women, it's a hard life for some!
I first read WOTW as part of a school project and was immediately under it's spell! I then found that my father had the musical version and played it back to back for an entire day! The part where Richard Burton describes the eve of the war with the sound of the train in the distance and the heat ray occasionaly sweeping the common still gives me goose bumps!!
I'm writing a guide which follows the narrators movements up to the destruction of Weybridge and have carried out a lot of research up to now. I've found 90% of the sites and places he describes. It will contain lots of colour pics for those of you who may never get to Woking, best of all it will be free!
I also like to wargame WOTW and am looking for opponents. Doesnt mater where you live, if my airline has a route there I can get there. Usually we stop over for a day or two before working a return flight.
This is a great forum and I'm looking forward to geting to know you fellow addicts!
Neil.

come to think of it, there's this fish distributor called ABBA too... Yes...ABBA took their name from it. The fishy people were not impressed and tried to sue them for copyright - that's why the bank inverted the first 'B' so it looked different.. (how anyone could confuse light pop music with a fish factory I'll never work out ;D

"Light pop music". THIS MEANS WAR!!...And there's nothing fishy about that. And the name ABBA came from the group members first names... Agnetha Faltskog Bjorn Ulvaeus Benny Andersson Anni-Frid Lyngstad So there!!. AB-BA.

"Light pop music". And the name ABBA came from the group members first names... ...Indeed it did. But they could have called themselves BAAB...or ABAB...or BABA (remember Baba Papa? ) Suppose they should have checked for fish factories with the same name!
