The only thing, besides a few small side-items,that I liked about the series was the design of the aliens themselves. They were still the basic Otto-types but improved in some ways, like the eyes ,the hands...They were still Ottos, but beefed-up a bit and made more formidable. The parasitic-takeover nonsense, however, I still object to;not in the book, not in the movie. But ,I do like the explanation of their cell and/or skeletal structure as being comparable to sponge or cartilage.Makes good story- continuity- type sense,in keeping with what we ''know'' about the Martians,or Mor-tax.But has anyone taken into account that it states in the paperback novel that their home-planet is 40 earth years distant?Wouldn't this have an effect on chain-of-command communications?I mean, even if all the invasion force were rock-solid loyalists and there were never any mutinies or power-plays,wouldn't there be always the chance that the home-planet could suffer some disaster, effectively making any aliens away at the time stranded wherever the were?I mean that's a long wait between supply runs.So a lot could happen in the communication lag between here and Mor-tax,making the local garrisons on Mars a standing population for that planet, which given their propensity for arrogance, they would probably call by the same name after a time.Think of the Romans when it came time to pull out of their colonies and return to defend Rome itself, against the barbarian hordes.Colonialism was the last thing on their minds at that time too.Perhaps the Marties/Morties would experience something similar.

the aliens from mor'tax are not morthren, the so called morthren aliens are the crappy season 2 humanoid aliens from morthrai who follow that "eternal" being which is their god.

Morthrens are such a cool design, and very brave for a TV series of the 1980s...ie: A full body suit!
Most Scifi shows simply used humanoids with bumps on their heads, but not WOTW, oh no! Here we have something that is only comparable to Alien and Predetor themselves, a true Alien life-form, believable in every detail. Fantastic!

What I don't understand is why the aliens wore gas masks with 2 eye-holes. They only had one eye!

Because of that mask, the Advocates must have had two eyes. When they were preparing their environment suits, they were still in human form. I guessed that they were never quite able to shed the remnants of their human hosts, and that beneith that mask was a hideous mesh of human and morthren...with two eyes!
Although in a later episode, the Advocates take over new bodies, but don the suits again when their job is done. Surely they should have adapted the suits after this adventure....Unless they are now permanently mutated? Oh, someone, please work it out!

Hello all, In the first episode of season two when the advocacy gets fried, one of them pulls its mask off... The face looks just like one of the regular aliens from season one... Sorry to blow the 'mutated' theory (which is totally cool), but this is the skinny.

Why were they killed by the second wave?

They were executed by the Morthren because of their failure to bring Earth under subjugation... They were the preliminary invasion force, and their job was to 'sterilize' the planet before the Morthren arrived. They failed. Because of this, Malzor kills them off.

Those dumb aliens were forever killing off their own people. Didn't they realise that they might need them at some point? Like to fight that War of the worlds they kept meaning to do? Doh!
Just watched vengeance is mine. I'd have loved to have seen the Morthren take those lasers on a few missions. Damn that pesky Blackwood and chums!

Oh, someone, please work it out! well the advocacy could only use what they could find, even if they only had one eye thier human hosts had 2... remember they were still in human form when they got into those suits and if they ever would have come out of those suits they would not have lasted that long as seen in the season 2 pilot. those suits were meant to keep the advocasy cool and sterile though it was clear they were not 100% sterile as one of them got the chicken pox.... but only because that advocate dared to go out on its own without the suit, and that is what happened... it was clear that the advocacy was in a miserable state, and in that case I dont blame the second wave for killing them, after all they were weak while the second wave was strong...

Ahah, thats a much more practical answer. I like it. Guess the aliens were just too lazy to adapt their suits to monocular vision once they'd shed their human bodies. Strange how they kept their human voices though. Explain that one please!

well they could have spent too much time in those bodies so they might have absorbed thier mental patterns... or the obvious: the show had a low budget I think they kept the same voices for the advocasy for budget and convenience sake but it still works so we would able to tell who the advocates are compared to the rest... and them speaking engish was probably a habit they got themselves into instead of having to have subtitles all the time
