I have never seen the TV series (I believe it was on Sky before I "went digital"). Is it actually very good? Could someone give me an idea of what it's about? (And don't say "read the book! ;D)

Is it actually very good? Er...no! ;D Pretty rubbish really and the connection with the film is tenuous, let alone with the book! Synopsis: After the invasion, the Martians 'go underground' and develop the technology to assume human form (a la 'The Invaders') and set about trying to sabotage and subvert human activities (a la The Invaders). A 'secret' crack team of humans tries to thwart and expose them, though often they are not believed and alien evidence disappears (a la The Invaders). Yawn....

Yeah i agree to a degree! JazzyJeff. But in the first episode when the Martian Manta Ray ships are found in that massive warehouse and reactivated to rise again is imo a brilliant scene. Shame the remaining episodes from the two series(yep i,ve seen them all)don't live up to the end of the first episode. B-B.

'The Invaders' was about an architect who discovers that invaders from another planet are amongst us after witnessing a UFO landing.. he recognises the aliens by a bent little finger because they otherwise look human, if I remember rightly. It ran for ages years ago and was better than I just made it sound.

In the cartoon, are the martians like in the film (Three eyes, big head, 2 leg things flying in coathanger machines) or as they should be (hideous things with tentacles and striding round in tripods?)

Cartoon? If you mean Jeff Wayne's new CGI film I would be surprised if they aren't based on the album designs. I can't recall ever seeing a Jeff Wayne design for the Martians themselves... that one might be a surprise but I guess tentacles will figure in it. If you mean WotW the series.. it was live action, not cartoon, and based on the 1950's designs.. although the Martians were a little different.. Most of the time they were in human form due to technology they developed. The Martian Elders were tall and wrapped in cloaks most of the time.Saved on the budget no doubt.

[glow=red,2,300]The martians from the PC and PS1 games could give us an idea of the CGI films designs... suitably large eyed, tentacled and pulsating. The beak looks a bit funny, and some of the tentacles are much larger/longer than others but they do look cool.

Yes, i lkinda like the game's martians, but i don't get this... I have playstation version. On cutsenes and last level (the elders), what do the artian look like. Are they one body? Like in the book (one big head), or in the horsell common sene, are there bodys hiding behind the seat thing in which they sit in?? And love when the kid jumps on the severed martian's head!!! ;D ;D

[glow=red,2,300]You get a brief look at the martians unseated in the opening cinematic for the martians in the PC game. They are just heads, no hidden body so the martian corpse being stomped on is unsevered.[/glow]

So, is this right??
On playstation game, horsell common sut-sene, where we see the martian, the head, is that ALL of the matian???
And "the elders", are they just "heads" sitting on those purple things???

Back to the topic - I saw bits of the series and agree that it was totally awful. No doubt a big influence on the number of posts in this category. I also have noted the reference to "The Invaders". Reminds me of days when BBC2 did a Sci-Fi movie season and I saw such greats as the 1953 WOTW movie for the first time, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Invaders From Mars, When Worlds Collide, This Island Earth, and many, many more (Coming to a K-Tel DVD soon - not available in any shops!) Still very fond of all of these movies.
ps - Oo wonn chiee sorrrce wiv vat?!
This chicken is rubbery - "Fank oo ver much!"
