I am new to this site and loved the tv series, "War of the Worlds"
Does anyone out there Know if "War of the Worlds" 1988 t.v. series will be released onto DVD in the near future. I would love some input.
I heard rumors, but I would like a confirmation. I would also like to know if anyone has any addresses or e-mail addresses that I can write to, to maybe get it released onto DVD if they aren't planning to do it now.
Great Site, BTW.
Thanks so much.

I'm affraid all I can do is back up your rumours. I heard that the full run of the TV series will be released on DVD at the later half of 2003 in time to create a rush for the new movies
I really hope this does happen

I'm afraid that the rumours of a DVD release to coincide with the films is false and as I far as I know, it never had any merit. There's has be no evidence to back this up since I heard the same "news." Since Paramount has denied the show's existence, I seriously doubt they'll bother with it. VCD sets on eBay are the closest thing. But if you want to help get a possible ball rolling for a release, then sign up here: www.tvshowsondvd.com/It holds no certainty, but it's offers a bit of hope.

Thank you Advocate. I will register my vote today. Maybe if we get more people involved, Paramount might take us seriously.
I already own the VCD set.
I am fully aware of Paramount denying the "War of the Worlds" tv series ever existing. I wrote them in the 1990's and they flat out told me there was no such show ever in existence. I hate being called a liar. I wish I would have kept that letter, alas I lost it in a move.
BTW, I wrote Paramount again regarding the DVD issue. Maybe they will take me seriously this time.
Cross your fingers.

Glad you cleared that one up advocate.
I had heard in the past that Paramount denied the shows existance, it's all very wierd.

It strikes me as odd that paramount goes to great lengths to defend its occupation of the rights to the franchise, but then denies its own TV show exists....

Could this be why at least two War of the Worlds: the Series sites online are missing? It does indeed seem peculiar that Paramont is trying to bury the series. But then this happened with the Fantastic 4 movie too. Its buried and gone aside from tapes seen at conventions.
Has anyone seen it on TV recently?
The series was a Frank Mancuso Jr production. Omega2064

It has aired on a Swedish cable channel ("Kanal 5") this very year. Guess Paramount acknowledges its existence abroad... ;D

I realize that I am about a year behind this thread, but I thought I would post anyway. I thought that it was Universal, not Paramount who producted WotW.
Am I wrong?

I'm afraid you are wrong. Paramount have had some of the rights for years (see some of the threads around the board for details about copyright issues re WotW in its various incarnations) and are clinging onto them for dear life. They will be the ones producing the new movie too. Welcome to the board, btw.

[glow=red,2,300]IT certainly is a big hole in many peoples collections It seems that merchandise executives think everyone is completly stupid. There is a prevailing theory that you should not have several 'similar' products for sale.. under this reasoning Fox cancelled Leading Edge games license to produce Aliens miniatures and wargames (selling very well at the time and now extremly sought after) because they were bringing out Alien3. It's not like they were bringing out Alien 3 miniatures etc. They just wanted 'consumer focus' on the new movie... DUMB@$$es They gave up substantial royalties on a well-selling range because someone thought that it would somehow mystically influence peoples decision to go see Alien 3? The same thing happened with Babylon 5, a PC game was on the verge of release, with a plot written by JMS and featuring hours of new footage of the cast and dialogue... it got canned because the spin-off series was coming... STUPID STUPID STUPID! Throwing away a guaranteed success because of a bizarre and illogical notion that it might affect viewers of the new show. What are these people smoking? Now with the WotW series... sure some people could watch the TV show and not like it and then decide that they won't like the Movie... others might go see the movie BECAUSE of said series... so if they are really worried, release the series substantially before the movie, or a week or two after the movie... Why waste the potential earner? [/glow]

Thanks. I wonder why they aren't wanting to admit existance. Ah, well, guess I'll just have to patiently wait and watch for them to come out (if they come out) on DVD. I would love to have the two season sets.
Thanks for the information.

Thanks. I wonder why they aren't wanting to admit existance. ...possibly because it was crap.. If I expelled some crap that I didn't want to admit to, I'd deny it was mine too... ...hang on, that came out a bit wrong didn't it!!

Woohoo...just got my VCD's in. I can't wait to watch them. I was so addicted to this series when I was a little kid. It is almost a shame that I am now jaded to the then "high tech" way they did things. Oh well, the nostalgia is worth it.
*prays a little harder they come out on DVD*

It's a pity we're unlikely to see a DVD of the series (but with the movies coming who knows? Paramount might do a new one if there's enough interest ). I would like to see the first series again, particularly the first episode which I remember liking. The moment when the war machine came out of the bunker was superb. I saw a little of the second series then gave up.. it was like a totally different show

I have both series available on VCD for anyone who wants them. I am happy to post anywhere in the world. I have converted them all from VHS to DVD and will play on most dvd players and all pc's.
I was going to put them on ebay. But if you are interested either msn me (Flawed)(sign in flawed@thedons.co.uk) or leave a message here and I can contact you.
Great series - the whole set comes to 9 discs!!! The set consists of all 22 series 1 including the feature length pilot, plus 20 episodes of series 2
