OK Ive seen this and all i can say its very good. yes the SFX is not spielberg standard but they are at least as good as Babylon 5 was in its day and thats no bad thing.
Acting is good, C Thomas Howell i have to say makes a better 'hero' than Cruise, by the end of the film hes a man broken prepared to die. Everything gone.
Its a lot more like the book in some ways than the 'Berg version and less in others. But it has black gas (well its green actually) and an 'artilleryman' (read soldier) and a mental priest.
Its a very good film for the million quid it cost to make. Good matting and location picking makes for excellent destroyed cities.
Its a Spielberg 'lite' and a bloody good one too.
;D7/10

Yeah, I really liked the main character in this one. He's much more believable than Cruise, and easy to warm to. Shame about the hexapod design and the martians themselves, but otherwise a really good film.

Yeah, the design was pretty good, but they were a little bland...Just smothered in a simple granite texture. I'd have like to have seen a little more thought put into that, but I expect it was done to speed up render-times. (Hey, hark at me, (little fuss-pot!)) ;D

Hey Rusti, Glad to see you have actually watched it now. It wasn't all that bad now was it CT was a good casting in this role, he played it well and it suited him as an actor. Ste.

Does anyone have any pics of what these Martians look like?
I'm interested to find out.

No, not until you mentioned Lensmen. Come to think of it, I never even thought to look there. Thanks.

This version was on the “Sci-Fi Channel” a few weeks ago but I missed it, it’s on sale at “Blockbuster Video” rite now so I will probably buy a copy there.
