I have been contacted today by William Powloski of Velocity FX, the Visual FX supervisor on Asylums WotW. As is becoming apparent, this film is surprising and delighting everyone with it's high production values and the good reviews that are beginning to come out reflect that. Mr Powloski has kindly offered the members of Waroftheworldsonline the chance to ask questions about his part in the movie, how the FX were done, concepts, etc. I'm sure many of us have questions about the FX process and so on, so please post them here. When we have a good amount, I will present them to Mr Powloski for answering. Please keep this thread on topic, but ask away!

Further to Horsells question, I'd be interested to hear how they came up with the concept they used for the machines in the movie. Anyone esle got anything to ask?

Not having actually seen the movie yet, I'm not sure what to ask, and some plum questions have been nabbed already. However...
Were any miniatures used in the film, or was it all done using CGI?

At any point did the script ask a little too much of your budget, and you had to work with them to dream up an equally exciting but more affordable scene/effect?
Pete
P.S: I'm a UK chap looking forward to film! Glad to see the reviews are rewarding your mighty efforts!

^^^ Do you like McTodd's avatar? -Gnorn Nice one, thanks Gnorn! I'll now add a new question: Did you ever consider having a Walker wipe out Thomas the Tank Engine? PS: Despite my reputation of being a miserable git, I am now, and have always been since hearing about it, looking forward to Asylum's fillum, and will be maiming the plastic later this momth.

Yes, Mr. Powloski...
1) Is it true that I have blackmail pictures of you with Dame Edna and a donkey and that's why you reluctantly did the effects in my movie?
2) Why didn't you add my scene where C. Thomas Howell gets "Superman" powers and flies around the world backwards thus turning time backwards and thus saving the planet? It would have been cool. You make me sick. You are dead to me.
3) Who is better looking: Me or the Alien creature?
4) Why won't you return my phone calls?
Love, Latt

David Latt - I have a problem
Page 72 is missing from my manual, cold you possibly fax me that page, but incase the invasion does begin at the point of you going to send it, forget it, I'll never get it as I would be to busy legging it down the road.
P.S Your end titles say that no aliens were harmed during the making of your film, but I am sure I noticed that Mike the Martian at the end had a plaster on his 3rd tenticle.

The government issued 'Duck and Cover' book which we were referring to, only goes to page 71. It's a sick, cruel joke that makes us all vulnerable under an alien attack. Damn them.
In regards to the harming of the alien -- we took care of X9284 (or "Big Mac" as we called him) on the set with our on-set medic/boom operator. We used a band-aid and kissed it's boo-boo. There were no lawsuits.

What's a 'boo-boo'? I take it it isn't Yogi Bear's sidekick in this case. I get the feeling I'm going to regret asking that.
