And just when I'd forgotten, ta H_C! ;D
I'm confused, anyway - was Asylum's film called 'Invasion' to start with and is now 'H G Wells's War of the Worlds', or was it the other way round?

I was just looking through the mug shots thread and couldnt help but notice that Evilnefer looks like that guys standing next to the martian. ;D Sorry Nerf i just had to post it. That's alright Thunderchild IV.. and Luperis et al... I did in fact point this out myself earlier in the thread... I think I'll sue the guy for unlawfully looking like me and flaunting himself about the net or something. And I am the Evil twin.. not him..

The bloody nerve of it! How can they get away with sticking HG WELLS name above this piece of trash. Aren't some of us getting a little over excited about this already. We haven't even seen a trailer for this one yet, so how can we be so quick to condemn it? Whilst it's undoubtably cheap, there's alot to be said for enthusiastic low budget movie making. The name seems to be in doubt so we can't really condemn them over that part. Even if it is called 'HG Wells WotW', which is iffy as we all know, you can't blame them to for doing it try and get the film out there. I know that if I was involved in that film (and that really isn't me in that pic.. honest) I'd do the same. From the pics of it seen so far, and despite it being an updated story, it *appears* to have all the elements that a WotW plotline movie should have. Ok, so what we've seen of the Tripods is a little odd, and the poster rips off various other things. But it may turn out to be ok. With PP silent, only Paramount incoming and JW's film far away as yet, perhaps we should be thankful that there is another WotW film on the way. This would appear to be, plotwise, a mix of the PP and Paramount productions. Not such a bad compromise when you consider that less than a year ago we had nothing.

"The bloody nerve of it! How can they get away with sticking HG WELLS name above this piece of trash" Funny, that is how some of us feel about the Pendragon film....likely trash is likely trash, authentic or not. I could make an argument that bad modern film calling itsself "HG Wells WOTW" will do less damage then a bad period version with the same title. At least this film seems to be gleefully honest about what it is..unlike Hines' pretentions. It also has professional level actors, something else seemingly lacking from Timbo's effort. Do fans have to take EVERYTHING so seriously? Is there some kind of a fan Ten COmmandents of which one is "Thou Shalt not Take HG Wells' name in vain". Calm down. Wells reputation is not going to suffer because of a couple of bad films. If you let stuff like this upset you you are going to have a pretty unhappy life..... True it's being honest about what it is [ at least it seems to be ] but that doesn't mean that it ain't going to be trash. And yes there's big question marks over Pendragon as we all know. At least Pendragon haven't got six legged fighting machines for f**ks sake! When you say "do fans have to take everything so seriously" - well obviously fans don't have to but if film studios and fans don't take things seriously then we'll never get the films we want. I think these cheap rip offs are bad for Wells name and instead of a classic novel, people who are unfamiliar with Wells will think - Hey, that's that book with the guy going round shooting Martians with his Kalashnikov and saving the world in the nick of time. I can't help thinking that this is being done to undercut and affect Pendragons film somehow.

I don't think it's aimed at Pendragon specifically, I'd be surprised if Asylum take them at all seriously. Say what you like about how cheap and tacky Asylum are, but at least they've released films. And say what you like about C Thomas Howell and Jake Busey, but they are recognised actors.
In any case, if Pendragon hadn't dragged their heels and faffed around for years, if they'd actually pulled their collective finger out, then they wouldn't have been undercut or however anyone wants to put it. I have no sympathy for them at all.

Up until 48 hours ago (if that) non of us new about this film, quite as a mouse you may say, then suddenly WHAM BAM THANK YOU MAM. . . Maybe, just maybe, PP have taken that same approach until things have calmed down - stranger things have happened.

One thing I can't understand, WHY on earth are they calling it 'H.G. Wells War Of The Worlds'. H.G must be turning in his grave knowing that a film company have taken his idea and turned a ingenious concept of a machine with 3 legs into a hybrid creation with 6 - and still call it 'H.G. Wells WOTW' - Does'nt make sense. I don't know how you guys feel, but personally I would have preferred if they dropped HGs name from the title. By putting his name into the title makes it a 'seal' that this film is a dead ringer for his book in almost everyway - far from the truth.
Don't get me wrong, Im not dissing the film - not even seen it yet to be even entitled to make those sort of comments, just basing it on the DVD artwork I can see. As I say, I would have preferred if they just called it 'War Of The Worlds', then we all now what side the breads buttered.

I'm guessing they needed a different title so as not to incur the wrath of paramount. Though they could have done this without attaching H.G. Wells to the beginning.
Sure is a confusing time to be a WOTW fan.

Not entirely as Paramounts 53 version, the films titles read 'H.G. Wells War Of The Worlds'.

Once again it goes back to the sticky subject of Copyright.
It also asks the question... does the CTH version have the rights for a Euro release?

Reading between the lines, if they have the go ahead to release it in the U.S, then there is no stopping it from being imported into Europe.
