Ok maybe am a little too slow on this one but on time code 33:18 just after rachel says "hurry up dad" there is the sound of the flying machine eye from the 1953 movie.
Hands up how many people think i am slow, and hands up how many didn't know

There are a lot of references to the George Pal version in the film. I'm sure I didn't catch all of them. I didn't even realize the old couple at the very end were stars of the older movie at the time I saw the movie. So if you missed one reference the first time or two you saw the film, you've got plenty of company.

Yeah I've noticed a couple of references. Main one would probably be the remote eye in the basement.
But I never did notice that. I'll have a listen to it - I plan on watching it again.

I thought I was going crazy but I played it back and it does it every time.
If at first you don't hear it turn the volume up loud, does anyone know if a simular thing happens, cos the obvious ones are the remote eye in the basement and the 53 stars, but does anyone know of any more hidden ones like the one I noticed?

Well, if you're slow then I am, too. Completely missed that one. I'm sure there's a thousand little homages everywhere, if other 'derivative' movies in the past have been any example.
I couldn't tell you of any more myself, but I'd be looking for things like serial numbers on military vehicles, if they're at all visible, storefront signs, etc. Likely there's quite a few.

Just looking around.
With the tripod coming up out of the ground - I'm not totally convinced that SS thought that one up himself (I mean as a totally original idea).
What about the TV story? Didn't they have War Machines buried under ground or something?
SS took a few elements from the 1953 movie - and could he have taken a few from the TV series?

If memory serves there was a story in the TV series about a tripod buried underground, and a flying machine buried. But I'm trying to remember back over 15 years. I discovered alcohol between then and now

I checked it out just this morning. You can hear it very vaguely in the background. Quite cool actually, and nice find!

You have to turn the sound up loud and tell everyone in the room to be quiet

One reference to the 53 movie that I did spot was where the reporter that Tom Cruise meets near the downed 747 says "Once the Tripods start to move no more news comes out of that area", it's the same line as is used in the 53 version... Or very close to anyway

The bit where the TV reporter says," When the tripods start moving, no more news comes from that area" is a nod to Pal's film too.
