Yesterday I saw a forum about Steven Spilberg, in general. This you know that most of these peoples, did'nt Know about HG Wells book?
It was as if they think that SS invented the whole movie by himself.
Another was talking about wotw, and close encounter of the 3rd kind. Saying that at the end of the movie, the sound coming from the monumental spaceship, Was almost the same as War of the world.
So peoples of wotw on line. I did respond to them, Saying that the tripod call was from the book of H.G. Wells, the redweed was coming from his book, that their need of blood was coming from is book, the tripods with some changed details, where also coming from the book.
They also talked about the basement, with Tim Roberts. I told them that it was about a kind of tribute of the 1953 movie, and the book.
I havent have any answer, and no welcome to that forum lol So this is it for now. Chantale.

It's amazing how many so called WotW fans I have seen over the years who are either ignorant of the book or think it's a dusty old book not worth reading. Beggars belief really, I think.

Yeah. I think that Jeff Wayne needs a big still in his up coming movie (Ok, they all needed this ) that says in big block letters 'Based on the novel by H.G Wells' that stays there for a while not just 10 seconds or so.

I'm not surprised Chantale. Even if a fan of the book somehow likes Spielbergs film - Spielberg deserves a damn good verbal bashing alone for virtually whitewashing HG Wells name.

Funny enough - I was going to say the same thing. And....... so people don't think Jeffs film is based on Spielbergs effort.

War of the Worlds -- based on an album by Jeff Wayne suggested by Steven Spielberg from an idea by David Latt from a dream Tim Hines' delivery boy's cousin had reimagined by George Pal who actually read the book by H.G. Wells ;D

It's always a shame when people do not do their research and find out what modern films have based themselves on... quite a few people I met in he US had seen the spielberg movie but never heard of Wells' novel! (needless to say, I introduced them to it - and to JW's musical ;D ).

Though, to be honest, if people don't tell 'em nicely, how would they know? If they're fans of the book they'll get their WotW kicks on these sorts of forums, not the Bergster's. But we can change that...
I suggest that when we pop over there we maybe drop off a few posts about the book - perhaps in setting up 'What was taken from the book' threads, or 'The Inspiration behind the Film' or whatnot. Not herald ourselves with, "Nyaaah! The film was rubbish - read this instead!" posts, even if you believe that, but the 'soft sell' instead. So they get curious and pick up the novel, instead of resenting us and swearing off H.G due to an arrogant arrival.
I might pop over later and see if I can convert a few to the spiffing book. Hmm.

The site is constantly refreshed with people who read the book and give their opinion about the movie based on it. So I think it's just a matter of time before those who don't know find it out. And if they really like the movie they will buy the Special-Edition DVD, on the extra disc they'll find many references to H.G.Wells book. So I don't think you'll have to get over there and start invading the forum with posts about how great the book is. By time they'll find it out by themselves and they'll do themselves a great favor. Wise words, Tripod.
Though I may swing by to bang on at length about why Empire of the Sun is Spielberg's greatest film anyway.
