Have any of u noticed that when the first tripod comes out and smashes the car next to ray, it has three fingeres! I love that because surely a race like the aliens would model there ships on themselves!

Yes it is a magnificent nod to the 50's version and a quirky useful design feature. They are acting a little sarcy because it has been discussed already, many times, as it is really in your face and obvious lol.
Nevermind.

would a three fingered being count in base 3? ie; 1 2 3 10 11 12 13 20 21 22 23 30 etc.

No, your count is in base 4. Base three would be: 1 2 10 11 12 20 21 22 100...
There are 10 kinds of people: Those who understand base three, those who don't, and those who couldn't care less.
Sure, a 3-fingered race would design their vehicles around triples of things. Just like we design our cars and other vehicles around the number 5.
Oh, wait...

But 3 is the magick numper, it appears in loads of things naturally, clover leaves for example and it is a number that sticks in the head, i.e. if something is said 3 times it is more likely to be remembered, or a 3 word phrase. Structurally it is sound because all 3 legs support one another and thus all 3 toes do the same whilst allowing the tripod to traverse tough terrain.

I like the scene when the foot smashes down onto the car. Note that alongside the car is the lamp post that somehow remains intact even though it is in the way of the falling foot.

This idea that they model the machines after themselves makes them sound vain. The three legged/three toed idea is very cool though. Also it is, as a design, very useful for rough terrain work. Tripod with one 'toe', woould slip and fall from craggy, or rocky surfaces, where a three toed tripe would be able to have nine points of contact with the ground.
I know I am an engineer, but is 9 a base 3 number?

I had an idea regarding the design of the machines. The alien glyphs, the monumental size of them and the design based on their own looks, I think has something to do with the nature of their use.
If all the talk is true about them being planted millions of years ago, they may be a primitive version of their "home" transport, but one solely designed for conquest, the shape may very well be that of vanity, to let the invaded know "we are invading you, know this planet belongs to us now". I also think the alien glyphs to be a relic of their past, a reminder of their lineage.

Has anyone noticed any similarities between the glyphs on Spielberg's war machines and the glyphs ued by the aliens in Spielberg's TV series 'Taken'?

I want to know how the Tripods still worked after a million years? If I leave my car standing for more than a week the battery ends up dead and one of the tyres goes flat. Plus this must be really old technology for them, so how do they know how they work? Stick us in a car from a hundred years ago and we would soon crash it into a wall or thrash the engine into the ground trying to get it up to 20mph. I realise that they are a more advanced race but they're still human... no hang on...
