I was watching the de-constructing DVD from the box set today, and it suddenly occurred to me that the Eve of the War promo wasn't included in its entirety. Wonder why this is? It could have been included in the 'extras' I suppose, but it wasn't. I wonder if it was left out by mistake, or maybe there's another reason?

I was quite dissapointed that it wasn't there, it seems that the 'definitive' tag is somewhat misplaced when you think of this glaring ommission.

I've asked JWM about this a few times. Apparently, they looked into including the video promos in their entirety but there are 'contractual' reasons as to why they could not be put in the 'Collector's Edition'. They could possibly have pursued it further but the cost of doing so (gaining permissions and sorting out royalties and what not) would have affected the price (and the value for money) of the set to quite a degree. Therefore, they felt that the cons outweighed the pros and excluded them.

Sorry Kry's, there is simply just too much to list.
Also, if you do a search, you will already find one of my "brief" run-downs of the 1978 Columbia promotional video which was posted in the 'Jeff Wayne' section a couple of years ago.

It appears to me that its as rare as Rocking Horse Doo Doo's

Unless you can find an original copy, I don't think you can get hold of it. I don't think it has ever been released commercially. Horsell might know a bit more about that as he is in the collecting game.

I have both the 1978 Columbia promotional film (on 8mm & video) and the music video from 1989 for the Ben Liebrand The Eve Of The War remix. These are indeed VERY rare. I have only ever seen them once up for sale and I bought them ;D, though I have been looking for them again I have never seen them again both for offer or download.

The 89 video is just a re-vamped version of the original 1978 promo.

Shame it can't be sourced! Incidentally, the '89 re-mix got a good chart position didn't it? Whereas the original only just scraped the top 30 (or am I not only barking up the wrong tree, I'm in the wrong forest all together!!)

H_C - Is that 8mm as in the old cine projector things they used to do home movies on or 8mm as in the Sony Video Format?? I know TV companies used to use that format? I take it as its so rare you`ve not bothered playing it? Also.. looking at your picture, likening yourself to "Prof", we should all get together and do a TWOTW jam And maybe send the results to Jeff for a laugh! I`d be up for playing guitar or bass for something like that! God knows who`d be able to play a "Tar" mind!

Yes, it's a 8mm cinefilm. It was used to promote the 'then' (in 1978) forth coming album release of the album over in the U.S (Columbia label as apposed to the U.K being CBS).
hehe ;D, TWOTW Tribute Band, nice one.

Any chance you could somehow convert a copy into whatever format then hook it up to the computer for us to see? Is this 8mm film or whatever it is like a projection film? I'm sure whatever it is there is a way how to convert it into whatever format you can...

You know what. A WOTW Tribute band sounds like a good laugh! I spose we could always find a use for a Triangle.. And Stu... we could always use a drummer lol.. actually, seeing as you are in a Queen Tribute act, in a certain light you do look a bit "Rogerish!".. Things could be worse.. I once saw a Queen Tribute when I was in Spain.. was all a bit suss.. the band we`re too bad, but Brian May`s Wig kept falling off. Have a look! Please tell me yours is better!

I've shrunk the pic down a bit. It was a bit on the large side! The guitarist looks as though he's thinking "Now what does this thing do?" ;D
