the worst part about the aliens is that they never popped out of peoples chests Lol, the only reason they looked "cute" was because the hadn't eaten after midnight!!

Ben made a really good point about these aliens a few posts back, yeah they werent ugly and didnt look capable of doing anything more than pull your car aerial off at Knowsley Safari park, but they dont need to be with all their kit. I dont suppose all the nazi officers were ugly as sin, probably some handsome fellas amongst them, doesnt make them any less terrifying or despicable.....

They behaved like teenagers, at least that's what came to my mind first. You know when one of them spins the wheel of a bike and it comes down. At first the alien is freaked out and then he becomes irritated and pushes the bike roughly away. I loved that scene. They sounded like teenagers as well....in that they communicate with "ullas" and grunts...

I enjoyed the movie, it was quite impressive. The Fighting machines were certainly in a class of their own...quite awesome. I particularly liked the scene of the tentacles unrolling down each side of the machines body. The aliens themselves were quite another matter. Yes...definitely ID4 clones, although I could accept that. But...*three* legs?!?! How did they ever develop any kind of technology if they had to sort of sit down everytime they needed to use their hands. Either that or roll over on their backs and do everything almost upside down. And if their primitive ancestors were attacked by a predator? How did they defend themselves even if they had bows and arrows? To me, that third leg was just absurd. And somewhere else on the Website, I remarked that all the aliens you see seem to be running around naked. Always seems very strange. But then, watching one trying to get into a tweed suit with one leg is just too much as well.

[glow=purple,2,300]I beg to differ! Two footed cars were all the rage in Bedrock! Fred and Barney used them quite frequently. Going back to the triple limbed aliens. For me they worked in the movie, although I would have preferred to see something more Wellsian. Perhaps some 'orrible blob of brain, with lots of tentacls, but using three of them as "legs" perhaps. How do you use your computer? Who knows. Maybe their ancestors had big pointy teeth? Maybe their ancestors were physically more powerful? Maybe their planet simply doesn't have such a diverse selection of life and they are top of the food chain?

If you looked closely you could see they had some small appendages on their belly, yes ON their BELLY! You see this quite clearly when one of the Aliens gives a family photo to the second Alien, he holds the picture with only one hand first but then another smaller hand clutches at the side of the photograph. If this wasn't enough evidence; you can get a clear look at the appendages when the Aliens are called back by a Tripod. All of them leap up to the hole in the ceiling you can see the 'belly-arms' when some of them scramble over the debris.

I saw them, not too sure where they were mounted but I saw the one extra hand (smaller) grip the top of the photo.

Well...I really thought I had made my point clear. I admit I did'nt see any 'belly' hands but it doesnt change my argument. Three legs...think about it....you lift a hand to scratch yourself...what - happens - next-? You fall over. Yes? And to sit down, you need a bum to sit on. The Aliens had a bony third leg in place of a soft comfortable butt. Try sitting down on that. Try banging rocks together to make a tool when you have three legs or hands or whatever you want to call them. Absolutely bloody silly aliens.

Well. It was a comedy movie after all, you know? With all the wise cracking Cruise did... And all the so-called horror scenes got a lot of laughs at the cinema where I went.

That means they're different from us, and maybe the third leg was so strong to support the whole body? Who knows! I for one liked them. Tripod

The Fighting Machines were cloned from the aliens themselves. The alien idea of having 3 legs as apposed to 2 or even 4 is quite good, still alien like. The machines are alien because they have 3 legs, so why not the aliens themselves. Like the machines, the aliens are organic and can perfectly stand/pose upon 3 legs, weighted out and balanced.
As for the ID4 resemblance . . Am I missing something here, oh you mean the head, the way it sweeps back into a point, like the hood of the fighting machine for example. Not heard anyone say the FMs look like the aliens from ID4 yet. Too many people have said they do, so automatically they must look like them. To me they dont look anything remotely like the ID4 aliens.
The 2 arms, they can be clearly seen when you see the 2 aliens in the cellar, the one of the left when it plays with the bikes wheel. If you can imagine the body of the creature with the head on the neck and where the middle third leg begins, the 2 arms are dead center of the body, so basically there chest.

Not so much the way that is sweeps back. More the entire head.
And please, the Tripods looked nothing like the Aliens in shape of head, and nothing like the ID4 aliens.
The actually living aliens where far too similar. Once I get screen caps of them Ill prove it. But I doubt it will work, some people seem to defend every aspect of the film because its by the god that is Speilberg, or its based on the much superior novel.
The aliens were a waste of time, extra hand or not.

Marcus, you post away. But remember your own words from elsewhere.. Other people's opinions are just as valid as your own, even if you don't agree with them.

My girlfriend expounded the theory that these aliens acted like children would, and IMO they were about as menacing. When they took off when the tripod sounded, it seemed like a "Come Back children, playtime's over" moment. I agree that the aliens were the least-scary part of the film, but overall, I liked them as well.

No the worst thing is he went for the same old alien design. How about a mass of tenticles? Who thought these aliens would be scary with their big eyes looking at holiday photos? They were about as scary as an andrex commercial.
The more I think of this movie, the only thing I liked was the tripod coming out of the ground. The rest sucked.
I think the aliens would have been better if they were like the ones in my cartoon. I mean, the rest of the film was full of laughs, why stop at the aliens?
