I REALLY like that purpleish one. (tripod #1). 8-) Though it looks organic it is very creepy nonetheless. Beautiful!

Peter Fussey's is my fave. Odd thing is, although it looks organic it's only in the forms, not the texturing (some versions go too organic, and seem made more from flesh and bone than metal).

I like that first one H_C posted, I've not seen that before.

You know, i was about to suggest a strictly FM gallery, and now we have one. Personally, i think this thread deserves its own section outside of "fan creations."

The 'Tripod #1' image is based around the 'fan art' mock poster from late last year, that film poster that showed just the legs of a machine with 2005 underneath.

I can suggest it to Rob. I like you think that with the vast amount of images coming onto the board, maybe a section devoted to the machines of WOTW - other than 'Fan Fiction'.

Rob will be putting a 'Fan Art' section on the main site at some point as it has been requested before, but I guess with his Uni work etc, he hasn't had the chance.
This'll have to do for the time being.
I'll move this to the general section as it probably fits better in there.

Sorry guys I'm far too busy at the moment to put one together I barely get enough time to read all the posts. But believe me I will do it after my graduation. It has to take complete priority at the moment.

I love the Fussey ones, they are so alien

These are interesting. I love the one showing the fight between the Artillery and the Fighting Machines. You could almost hear that enormous thud of the machines hood exploding from the contact of the shell.

I know everyone has probably seen these, but I think it's still my favorite version. Maybe because I spent a lot of time in grade school learning to draw them instead of paying attention...

They're not even close to the description in the book, but they are certainly timeless, especially considering they were drawn about 1955!

Wow! Here I just posted a day or two ago that I had not seen one single artist portray the tripods as biotech with a metallic covering, which is what a close study of the novel's text suggests to me.

Now this is getting close to how I envision the tripods! The rear basket is omitted, and I don't see the Heat Ray projector-- but overall it's very nice. Interesting to see how so many artists give the fighting machines "eyes".

I agree, this thread should have its own section. One of my own favourite illustrations is from the old Heinemann publication of the novel which can be seen at http://drzeus.best.vwh.net/wotw/illus/heinemann1.gif
On the positive side, the FM has the "fishermans basket" for the collection of human lunch, and HGs description of the articulated joints as having no fixed pivots. Also you can imagine the head turning like the head of a man. Rarely featured on many depictions, is the inclusion of the steam jets used to turn the black smoke into the black dust. My critisisms on the other hand are, the heat ray generator is held by tentacles, not the "arm" described at the Shepperton showdown, and the legs in their trestle design look a bit too "human" made. The lack of feet would be nothing but humourous in the boggy fields of Surry! I have a pastel picture that I did many years ago using the general feel of Mcgills otherwise inspiring illustration that I will scan for all to see eventually. It depicts the journalist and the curate hiding in the hedge watching the FMs firing the smoke cannisters within the great arc of tripods about Sunbury.

I found this one on a website t'other day. Most of my downloaded tripod pics are on my home pc. I'll see if I can get some of the better ones online later.

Does anyone have a larger version of this one?
