The fourth annual New York City Horror Film Festival has announced the lineup for what’s shaping up to be its biggest event yet. Presented by Moodude Films, the fest runs October 19-23 at the Tribeca Cinemas (54 Varick Street), with over 50 feature and short films on the program. Highlights include a Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to genre legend Roger Corman (Saturday, Oct. 22 at 10 p.m.), whose classic THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH will be shown; the world premiere of Tobe Hooper’s new film MORTUARY (Thursday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m.); and an advance special screening of the Asian anthology THREE…EXTREMES (Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 p.m.). There will also be showings of two very different 1975 favorites: JAWS (Sunday, Oct. 23 at 7:30 p.m.) with a new 35mm print, and THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW (Friday, Oct. 21 at midnight), with the latter proceeds going to the American Red Cross to help the recent hurricane victims. In a more family-oriented vein, there will be a showing of Tim Burton’s THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS Sunday, October 23 at 12 noon.

This year’s edition also boasts a larger number of features in competition. Those films are: Kelsey T. Howard’s CRUEL WORLD; Paul Fox’s THE DARK HOURS; Andrew Van Den Houten’s HEADSPACE; Christopher Garetano’s documentary HORROR BUSINESS; David Michael Latt’s H.G. WELLS’ WAR OF THE WORLDS; Graeme Whifler’s NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH; Dylan Bank’s NIGHTMARE; James Tucker’s NO ONE GETS OUT; and Derek Wan’s SHADOW: DEAD RIOT (scripted by Fango’s Michael Gingold). The short competition includes two entries from the second FANGORIA BLOOD DRIVE—Adam Barnick’s MAINSTREAM and Jake Kennedy’s WE ALL FALL DOWN—and Tom Savini’s CHILL FACTOR: HOUSE CALL, among many others.

I told Mr. Latt about this last night, and it was actually the first he had heard about it. I think it made his day. ;D
